Gracie gave birth to six precious puppies on April 3rd. We had miscalculated her exact due date and were caught a little by surprise. Gracie had a long day in the early stages of labor. We used the time to do last minute tasks and final cleaning anticipating our being busy around the clock for the next three weeks. In large part, we assumed that her behavior was linked to missing Mia. The morning the puppies were born, we had lost power. Fortunately, the warmers and heating supplies had been plugged in the previous night and much of the warmth was retained in the containers with towels and necessary whelping supplies. I was thankful for the bright and powerful headlamp that I received as a Christmas gift. The first puppy was born by ‘head lamp’. We were very thankful that the electricity returned after six hours and before the arrival of the second puppy.
